Chery exports nearly 36k units in June, all-time monthly record

Chery sold 35,818 vehicles outside China in June (+50.3% year-on-year, or YoY), setting a new monthly export record in the brand’s 21 years of ‘going global’. This bumps up its export total for the first half of 2022 (1H22) to 148,000 units (+24.9% YoY), of which 112,000, or over three quarters, were new energy vehicles, cementing Chery’s growing status as a brand at the forefront of vehicle technology.

Chery’s Brazil sales performance in 1H22 was especially notable, where the brand ranked ninth among carmakers. The Arrizo 6 ranked fourth in cumulative 1H22 sales with a segment market share of 3.62%, the sedan having been awarded Best Resale Value in the intermediate segment by eminent media Kelley Blue Book and Quatro Rodas. Meanwhile, 21,300 Tiggo 8 series vehicles were sold in Brazil from January to June; the series serves as presidential and state transport in Brazil and in several other countries and regions.

Chery also performed well in Chile, commanding 6.7% of 1H22 cumulative sales and placing it in the top three in terms of sales volume. The carmaker topped the SUV segment in 1H22 with 15.1% market share – far ahead of many international brands – led by the Tiggo 2, which sold 6,088 units in 1H22 to rank first in the segment.

Since entering South Africa last year, Chery has maintained a strong growth momentum and good market performance. Cumulative January-May sales jumped 21.1% month-on-month, and June sales were also impressive. Chery entered South Africa as a subsidiary in August 2021, and topped the SUV segment in less than 10 months from the product launch. The carmaker also embraced its corporate social responsibility in early April 2022, when it held public benefit donation activities to provide water and other supplies to underprivileged areas, to alleviate water shortages caused by typhoon in the Kwazulu-Natal region.

Amidst on-going issues such as the aftermath of the global pandemic as well as international logistics and transportation challenges, Chery has weathered the storm, withstood the pressure and continues to expand its overseas markets while achieving impressive sales results.
