CHERY MALAYSIA UNVEILS SUPER HYBRID TECHNOLOGY AND PREVIEWS TIGGO 7 PHEV & TIGGO 8 PHEV MODELS

July 22, 2025

KUALA LUMPUR, 21 JULY 2025 – Chery Malaysia today proudly unveiled its cutting-edge Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) technology, marking another milestone in the brand’s journey to offer intelligent, efficient, and sustainable mobility solutions to Malaysian consumers.

“Today’s launch of the Chery Super Hybrid represents not only a proud technological achievement for Chery but also a reflection of our global dedication to energy-efficient innovation.

“With the Chery Super Hybrid platform, we aim to provide Malaysian drivers with the flexibility of electric driving, the range confidence of a hybrid, and the performance of a Chery,” said Michael Chew, Vice President of Chery Malaysia.

Chery Super Hybrid (CSH): A Breakthrough in Electrified Mobility

The Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) represents a new era of innovation in New Energy Vehicle (NEV) technology, combining the best of Super Hybrid Electric Vehicle (Super HEV) and Electric Vehicle (EV) performance.

Designed to deliver superior energy efficiency and outstanding driving dynamics, CSH sets a new benchmark for hybrid powertrains in the global automotive industry.

Chery’s hybrid journey began in 2001, with the formation of a dedicated research and development team focused on clean energy solutions. Over two decades later, this effort has culminated in the fifth-generation Chery Super Hybrid, refined and engineered for global deployment, including markets like Malaysia.

At the heart of the CSH platform is a 1.5L Turbocharged Dedicated Hybrid Engine, achieving 44.5% thermal efficiency—one of the highest in the industry.

When paired with a high-efficiency electric motor, the system delivers a combined output of 255 kW and 525 Nm of torque, offering a smooth, powerful, and highly efficient drive across all conditions.

Key highlights of the TIGGO 7 PHEV and TIGGO 8 PHEV Chery Super Hybrid system include:

  • Stepless Super Hybrid DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission): Provides seamless and intelligent energy switching with up to 98.5% mechanical efficiency.
  • High-Capacity Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery: Certified to IP68, this battery system is dust- and water-resistant, capable of withstanding extreme temperatures up to 95°C, and supports fast charging from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes.
  • Guardian Battery Safety Protection System: Ensures reliable performance with multiple safety layers—ideal for both urban use and long-distance travel.
  • Combined driving range of up to 1,200 km, easing range anxiety in all situations.
  • Intelligent Energy Management: Adapts seamlessly between electric and hybrid modes, ensuring reduced emissions and maximum fuel savings.

Together, these core technologies bring High Energy Efficiency, High Performance, High Safety, and High Intelligence—four pillars that define Chery Super Hybrid as a game-changing innovation in electrified mobility.

The launch event also featured the official preview of the TIGGO 7 PHEV CSH and TIGGO 8 PHEV CSH, two stylish and practical plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) that further strengthen Chery’s diverse product portfolio in Malaysia, signalling its readiness to enter the local PHEV market, with full launch details to be announced soon.

The TIGGO 7 PHEV CSH and TIGGO 8 PHEV CSH represent the latest additions to the Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) line-up in Malaysia, following the initial debut of the platform with the TIGGO Cross Hybrid CSH early this month (9 July).

These new plug-in hybrid electric SUVs are tailored to meet the lifestyle needs of a broad range of customers — from first-time car buyers and growing families to retirees looking for their next road trip adventure.

“Whether it’s for city driving, eco-conscious commuting, or long-distance travel, Chery now offers a complete range — from petrol to fully electric, to hybrid electric, and now plug-in hybrid electric vehicles,” adds Chew.

Chery Super Hybrid Battery Undergoes Extreme Global Safety Tests Across Three Continents

The Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) battery technology is undergoing one of the world’s most rigorous safety validation campaigns through the brand’s Global Safety Challenge, reinforcing its commitment to setting new benchmarks in electrified vehicle safety.

The first phase began in China, where the TIGGO 9 PHEV CSH vehicles endured a series of extreme safety tests, including spiral rollovers and head-on vehicle collision, a 7-car stack test, 55 km/h side intrusion, a 4.9-metre vertical drop, and a 720-hour salt spray exposure — proving the system’s structural integrity and durability under high-stress conditions.

The second phase took place in Indonesia, where Chery turned its focus to tropical flood resilience. The CSH batteries were submerged in a 1-metre-deep seawater tank for over 53 hours.

The test simulated the corrosive, high-pressure environments common in flood-prone regions, and demonstrated the battery’s exceptional sealing, chemical stability, and thermal management under real-world stress. It was then fitted back onto a TIGGO 8 PHEV CSH and was driven to show its durability.

Next, the Global Safety Challenge heads to Mexico, where the TIGGO 7 PHEV CSH will face an underbody scraping test across the country’s rugged highland terrain. These trials will assess the battery’s undercarriage protection and system stability at high altitudes — key challenges in mountainous and rural driving conditions.

Chery will continue to expand the Global Safety Challenge to additional key markets such as South Africa and Brazil. Each stop is designed to push the boundaries of what electrified mobility can withstand, while demonstrating Chery’s commitment to delivering not just high- performance vehicles, but safe and reliable ones tailored for real-world environments.
