KUALA LUMPUR, 3 OCTOBER 2025 — Chery Malaysia officially launched its Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs): the TIGGO 7 PHEV and TIGGO 8 PHEV, thus expanding the automaker’s line-up in New Energy Vehicles in Malaysia.
Both models powered by the advanced Chery Super Hybrid technology platform. These models mark another step forward in making advanced new energy technologies accessible.
The adoption of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in Malaysia is gaining momentum, driven by progressive government policies, expanding charging infrastructure, and increasing consumer demand.
“The rise of NEVs in Malaysia is no longer on the margins — it is fast becoming a central pillar of the nation’s automotive future,” said Lee Wen Hsiang, Vice President of Chery Malaysia.
As the transition unfolds, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) play a vital role in bridging the familiarity of petrol driving with the exciting possibilities of electrification.
“PHEVs are especially important today, offering drivers the perfect balance of efficiency, performance, and peace of mind as the nation moves toward an electric future,” Lee added during the launch.
While Men Linbo, Executive Vice President of Chery Corporate Malaysia also shared that the Chery Group, established in 1997, has since grown into a global force in the automotive industry.
He highlighted that the group’s recent listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange was not only a financial milestone but also a new beginning, reflecting Chery’s commitment to responsibility, innovation, and contributing to society beyond commercial success.
Globally, Chery has been China’s number one passenger car exporter for 22 consecutive years, leading in Europe, South America, the Middle East, and North Africa, while also expanding strongly in North America and Asia.
“Malaysia is an important market for us and our vision here goes beyond global numbers. We are investing in local assembly plants, a soon to be completed mega factory in Selangor and building strong partnerships to create jobs, strengthen the supply chain, and make advanced technologies more accessible,” said Men.
Chery Group Achievement from January to August 2025
The launch builds on Chery Group’s strong global momentum. In August alone, Chery Group sold 242,736 vehicles, marking a 14.6% year-on-year growth. Of this, 71,218 were NEVs, reflecting a surge of 53.1% compared to the same month last year.
Exports also hit a new record at 129,472 units, a 32.3% increase year-on-year. This achievement marked the fourth consecutive month of exports surpassing 100,000 units, further solidifying Chery’s position as China’s leading automobile exporter.
From January to August 2025, Chery Group sold a cumulative 1,727,299 vehicles, up 14.5% year-on-year. Overseas exports contributed 798,804 units, maintaining Chery’s lead as China’s top automotive exporter.
This year, Chery has also achieved three historic milestones:

The Chery TIGGO 7 PHEV and TIGGO 8 PHEV is powered by a robust 1.5L Turbocharged Direct Injection Engine (TGDi) delivering an impressive, combined power of 275 PS and 365 Nm of torque.
For those seeking intelligent efficiency and electrified performance, the TIGGO 7 PHEV and TIGGO 8 PHEV are equipped with Chery’s advanced Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT).
Boasting 98% mechanical efficiency, the system transfers nearly all engine and motor power directly to the wheels, delivering smoother acceleration, stronger responsiveness, and greater overall efficiency.
Both models are powered by an 18.3 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, offering a pure electric driving range of up to 90 kilometres. Renowned for its high endurance and safety, the LFP battery also supports fast charging capability — ensuring greater convenience and peace of mind for daily commutes as well as longer journeys.
The new PHEVs offer versatile charging solutions. With DC fast charging (40 kW), the battery charges from 30% to 80% in just 19 minutes while the AC charging (6.6 kW) achieves the same range in 3 hours and with a standard 3-pin charger, a full charge overnight in takes about 8.5 hours. For added practicality, the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function (3.3 kW) allows external power discharge.
